Tuna Chickpea Salan

This Tuna Chickpea dish is an old family favourite. I guess my sisters make it a bit differently than I do... or maybe they don't :)

This is what you need:

4 tins of tuna, drained
1 bowl of chickpeas, tinned or self-boiled - mind were a still a bit frozen
1 large onion, sliced finely
4 or 5 medium tomatoes
1 bunch of fresh coriander
1 large green chili, or to taste
3 to 4 cloves of garlic
1 tsp each of: salt, cumin, coriander, curry powder
1/2 each of garam masala and black pepper
2 to 3 tbls lemon juice

This is what you should do:

1- fry the onions in oil till pale pink, dont let them get dark

2- add the  tuna, some garlic and saute - turning over in between to let the tuna flakes brown a bit and the water to dry up

3- add half the tomatoes, the rest of the garlic, half the coriander and all  the spices

4- on medium heat, saute the spices until the 'tuna-smell' is no more

5- halfway through that process, add the chickpeas - I like them nice and soft. But if you prefer them a bit less soft, then add them in the next stage

6- pour over the lemon juice, mix in

7- add the rest of the tomatoes, coriander and chilies. Toss very slightly, and cover. Switch off heat and let the garnish just wilt in the rest heat.. enjoy with pita or khubuz..
